INJECTION SITE SARCOMA – A RARE BUT DEADLY CANCER
Most of our clients are aware of the fact that a connection has been made between cat injections and a rare but very serious malignant cancer. The Injection Site Feline Sarcoma problem has led to a comprehensive review of the process of immunizing our feline patients. The Injection Site Feline Sarcoma Task Force was formed to help guide the veterinary profession. The Task Force was comprised of national experts interested in maximizing vaccination benefit while reducing any possible risks. They considered which injections posed the greatest risks and referenced that against the risk of the various diseases. They incorporated recent research into the longevity of modern vaccines. In the end, they published a formal plan. We continue to include the Task Force recommendations into our own routine. We hope that this website will help our cat owning clients understand what is necessary to maintain the best protection against disease while continuing to reduce risks that can cause this deadly cancer.
